Poetry submissions are currently closed while Birdcoat works through a backlog. The journal accepts up to five poems, or a maximum of ten pages, with work that may blur genre and play with form.
Standard fiction submissions were open from December 31, 2025 to March 31, 2026. Accepts fiction up to 5,000 words, either one longer piece or up to five flash pieces; Birdcoat seeks work that blurs genre, plays with form, and uses surprising language.
Standard essay submissions were open from December 31, 2025 to March 31, 2026. Accepts lyric essays up to 5,000 words, either one longer piece or up to five flash pieces; work should blur genre, play with form, and address urgent or uncommon subjects.
