Open to: Authors may submit only one article at a time; articles must not be written, edited, organized, translated, or otherwise composed with AI.
Commonweal seeks original, topical articles for educated general readers on public affairs, religion, literature, and the arts. Short Takes are 1,000–2,000 words, Features are 2,500–5,000 words, and Last Word columns are 750–1,500 words. Submit one article at a time through Submittable; unsolicited book and film reviews are not accepted, and articles must not use AI at any stage of composition.
Commonweal is not currently considering new poetry submissions, though previously submitted poems remain under review.
