Open to: Open to amateur writers in the field, whether or not they are N3F members; an amateur is defined as someone who has sold no more than two stories to professional science fiction or fantasy publications.

2026 amateur short story contest for original, unpublished science fiction, fantasy, or similar-genre stories up to 8,500 words; entrants may submit up to three stories. Entries must be received or postmarked by December 31, 2026. Winners will be notified after judging, with announcements by March 2027.
