Submit one story of typically no more than 5,000 words, or two shorter stories of less than 2,000 words each. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but previously published work and work in press elsewhere are not considered.

Submit one longer-form essay, memoir, or immersive journalism piece of typically no more than 5,000 words, or two shorter essays of less than 2,000 words each. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but previously published work and work in press elsewhere are not considered.

Book-review queries are welcome for fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, hybrid and cross-genre forms, and writing for children and young adults. Single-title review essays should be 1,000-1,200 words; capsule review essays include three reviews of 200-300 words each plus a brief introduction. Dramatic writers may submit scripts for 10-minute stage plays or short films, including TV; the magazine will also consider video of produced scripts. Writers for children and young adults may submit in prose, lyric, or drama. Submissions are open and ongoing.
