Novelettes and novellas should be 10,000–39,999 words. The Pink Hydra publishes usually novella-length books and seeks tales of unreality, speculative fiction, unusual styles, genre hybrids, queer work, and writing with a fantasy-feel.

Short stories are 1,000–9,999 words; one submission at a time, with a single epic poem also permitted. The magazine seeks tales of unreality, speculative fiction, unusual styles, genre hybrids, queer work, erotica, and stories with a fantasy-feel.

Collections of short stories or poems are preferably under 50,000 words total, with a strong central theme favored. A single book-length poem may also be submitted in this category.

Short novels of 40,000 words and above are accepted up to a hard limit of 80,000 words; shorter work is strongly preferred. The magazine seeks tales of unreality, speculative fiction, unusual styles, genre hybrids, queer work, and writing with a fantasy-feel.

Flash fiction and experimental or hybrid prose are accepted in batches of up to five pieces, with a hard limit of 999 words each. Tales of unreality and speculative or unusual work are especially welcome; up to ten connected poems may also be submitted through this category.

Creative nonfiction is accepted when it has a fantasy-feel or fits The Pink Hydra’s tales-of-unreality vibe; the guidelines provide no separate nonfiction word limit.

Accepts up to ten poems around a connected theme, plus longer epic poems and book-length poems in the relevant longer-form categories. Poetry should generally have a fantasy-feel or fit the publication’s vibe.
