Fiction submissions are open and may be up to 5,000 words; submit no more than one piece at a time. The magazine charges fees for some genres and provides a no-fee form for BIPOC writers.

Nonfiction submissions are open and may be up to 6,000 words; the magazine seeks memoir, reported, braided, and other forms engaging with pressing and timely subjects. Submit no more than one piece at a time.

The Ukrainian Voices series seeks nonfiction in any form about Ukraine and Ukrainians, with the Russian invasion in the foreground or background; submissions are fee-waived.

The Palestinian Voices series seeks creative work in all genres by Palestinian writers, including members of the Palestinian diaspora; submissions are fee-waived.

Translations are open for fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama, including novel excerpts and full-length plays; submit the original text with the translation and obtain written permission from the original writer if accepted.

Forthcoming excerpts are open for poetry and prose from books, collections, and anthologies forthcoming from independent presses.

Book reviews are open for completed reviews of fiction and creative nonfiction books or collections from small and university presses, typically 700–1,200 words; books should be forthcoming or released within the calendar year. The magazine does not review children’s books or YA.

Submit 3–5 poems totaling no more than 7 pages; all styles are considered, with a preference for experimental and/or sonically driven work. A no-fee form is available for BIPOC writers.
