Fiction submissions are accepted October 1 through June 1 via Submittable. Chicago Review considers one short story or novel excerpt of up to 5,000 words, or up to five short-shorts in one file, in any literary style, though it is typically less interested in traditional narrative approaches. A small submission fee applies, with hardship waivers available.
Nonfiction submissions are accepted year-round by emailed pitch. The section focuses on literary criticism, including analytical reviews, commentary essays, interviews, letters, satires, polemics, and pastiches; personal essays and memoir are not sought. Reviews are 1,500–2,500 words and commentary pieces are 2,500–5,000 words.
Poetry submissions are accepted October 1 through June 1 via Submittable. There are no strict length requirements, but at least five pages are preferred and more than fifteen or twenty pages is usually too much. A small submission fee applies, with hardship waivers available.
