General fiction submissions: 2,000–7,000 words, one story or novel excerpt at a time, no flash fiction or serialized works; works in translation welcome.
General nonfiction: journalism/reportage, essays, memoir, criticism, argument of 2,500+ words; no pitches, interviews, or book reviews; longform critical essays welcome.
Open to: Work must have been published outside the US, Canada, Western Europe, and Australia, except for Indigenous writers in those regions.
Guernica Global Spotlights: previously published fiction and nonfiction (3,000–7,000 words) from outside the US, Canada, Western Europe, and Australia (except Indigenous writers in those regions); work must have been published within the last year; $100 honorarium.
Interviews: submit completed interviews with an introduction; no pitches accepted.
Submit up to five unpublished poems at a time; translations welcome if not previously published in English.
Guernica Global Spotlights: Book Reviews—1,200–2,500-word reviews of books published outside the West or by Indigenous writers within those regions; deadline 1 July 2026; $100 honorarium.
