Open to: Work must have been published within the last year by a magazine, zine, or independent publisher outside the US and Canada, Western Europe, and Australia, unless it is by an Indigenous writer in those geographies; writers, editors, and translators from the publication

Global Spotlights accepts previously published short stories, novel excerpts, and hybrid texts from outside dominant Western publishing centers, published within the last year; submissions should be 3,000–7,000 words. Guernica aims to respond within eight weeks and pays a $100 honorarium to the rights-holder.

Open submissions accept one story or one excerpt from an unpublished novel, between 2,000 and 7,000 words. Flash fiction, serialized longer works, email submissions, and hard-copy submissions are not considered; translations are especially welcome.

Open general submissions accept journalism/reportage, essays, memoir, criticism, and argument of 2,500 words or more; completed original prose only, with no pitches, interviews, or book reviews. Guernica aims to respond within 6 or so months.

Guernica accepts completed interviews with an introduction and a cover letter explaining their fit for Guernica readers; interview pitches are not accepted.

Open submissions accept up to five original, unpublished poems at one time, with no more than one poetry submission active simultaneously. Translations may have appeared elsewhere but not in English.

Global Spotlights Book Reviews seeks completed 1,200–2,500-word reviews of recently published or forthcoming fiction and nonfiction, with a brief book description, themes or questions, bio, and review attachment. Deadline: July 1, 2026, 11:59 PM GMT; responses are targeted within eight weeks and payment is upon publication.
