Rattle

Open to: Open worldwide to writers. Poems must be primarily in English; translations are accepted only if they are the entrant's own. The manuscript as a collection must be unpublished, and at least one winner will be a poet without a professionally published full-length poetry book at submission.

The 2027 Rattle Chapbook Prize accepts a single manuscript of 15–30 pages of poetry. The deadline is January 15, 2027; winners are announced April 15, 2027. The entry fee is $30 and includes a one-year subscription.

Open to: Poems must be previously unpublished in books, magazines, or similar public collections; self-publication on social media, blogs, and message boards is allowed. Work must not contain machine-generated text.

General submissions are open year-round and free. Rattle seeks previously unpublished poems of any length, in free verse or traditional forms, and accepts up to four poems per submission. Simultaneous submissions are encouraged, but do not submit again in this category until receiving a reply. Machine-generated text and previously curated publication are not accepted.

Open to: Poems must respond to news or a public event from the previous week and be written in the time since.

Poets Respond accepts poems responding to a news story or public event from the previous week; poems must have been written since the event. Include a brief explanation. The deadline is Friday at midnight PT each week.

Open to: The poem must respond to the single image posted for the current month.

Ekphrastic Challenge accepts one poem responding to the image posted for the current monthly challenge. The deadline is the last day of each month; selected poems are published online the following month.

Open to: Poems must be based on the current Rattlecast episode prompt.

Rattlecast Prompt Poems accepts poems based on the current Rattlecast prompt. The deadline is the end of each month; one poem is selected as the Prompt Poem of the Month. Poems submitted by Sunday night at midnight ET may also be considered for Invited Prompt Lines.
