Graybeal-Gowen Prize for Virginia Poets: open September 1-15, 2026, or until 500 submissions; for Virginia poets only; judged by Denise Duhamel.
Short stories and novel excerpts; prose submissions under 8,000 words; up to three pieces of flash or micro fiction per submission; translated prose accepted with original text and cover letter; submissions open on September 10 and January 15 each year; submission manager accepts only 800 submission
Creative nonfiction (memoir, lyric essay, personal essay, literary journalism, cultural criticism, research-based CNF); up to 8,000 words; up to three pieces of flash or micro CNF per submission; translated prose accepted with original text and cover letter; will be considered in Fall 2026 by Editor
Three to five poems, no more than ten pages total; Graybeal-Gowen Prize for Virginia Poets open September 1-15, 2026 (Virginia poets only); regular poetry reading periods for 2026-27 to be announced.
