Submission calls
Fiction, including short stories and novel excerpts, opens October 15, 2026 at noon EST for the Basins theme, with up to 200 submissions accepted; general fiction opens September 10 and January 15 each year until the submission cap is met. Prose should be under 8,000 words; up to three flash or micro-fiction pieces may be submitted.
Creative nonfiction opens October 15, 2026 at noon EST for up to 200 submissions. The editors seek witnessing-centered work, including memoir, reportage, personal and collective history, literary journalism, cultural criticism, lyric essay, and formally experimental writing. Prose should be under 8,000 words; up to three flash or micro-CNF pieces may be submitted.
Poetry will next open for up to 200 submissions on January 15, 2027, and is considered for power, surprise, intelligence, craft, mystery, and risky strangeness. Send three to five poems, no more than ten pages total.
