Last checkedTalking Writing publishes personal essays, features, poetry, fiction, flash nonfiction, hybrid work, and interviews focused on reading, writing, and related themes.
Submission calls
Short stories up to 8,000 words; flash fiction up to 1,000 words, with no more than three flash stories in one document. General fiction is accepted only during specific reading periods.
Theme essays: 800–1,200 words; features: 800–1,500 words; flash nonfiction and hybrid work: 500–1,500 words, especially idea-driven flash essays of 800–1,000 words; “Why I Write” essays: 800–1,200 words. Theme essays follow the Editorial Calendar.
Interviews are occasionally assigned; submit interview proposals under the Queries category in Submittable. Length: 800–2,500 words.
Submit three to five poems in one document, no more than five pages total. Poetry is accepted only during specific reading periods.
