Open to: Work must be original and unpublished; translations must not have been previously published in English. Any generative A.I. use must be disclosed, except when deliberately and creatively used as a formal device.
Rolling submissions are currently open for original, unpublished poems; up to six poems may be sent in one document, with no more than two poetry submissions per twelve-month period. Translations are considered if not previously published in English. The magazine strives to respond within six months, but reading time is often longer.
Fiction submissions are temporarily closed while The New Yorker transitions to Submittable and will reopen at this page on November 1, 2026. The magazine seeks original, unpublished short stories; follow the specific fiction guidelines when submissions reopen.
