The 2026 contest accepts one original, previously unpublished short story of up to 10,000 words; the winner receives $1,000 and publication in the Spring 2027 issue. Current and former Sewanee Review or University of the South employees and students, relatives, students, and close friends of staff or judges, and previous contest winners are ineligible.
The 2026 contest accepts one original, previously unpublished nonfiction essay of up to 10,000 words; the winner receives $1,000 and publication in the Spring 2027 issue. Current and former Sewanee Review or University of the South employees and students, relatives, students, and close friends of staff or judges, and previous contest winners are ineligible.
The 2026 contest accepts 1-6 original, previously unpublished poems per entry; the winner receives $1,000 and publication in the Spring 2027 issue.
