The SmokeLong Quarterly Award for Flash Fiction

Grand Micro Contest entry for up to two micros, with each micro 250 words or fewer. Fiction, nonfiction, and hybrid narratives that lean poetic are considered; poetry with line breaks is not considered. Open to: Applicants must be emerging writers without a published or contracted book-length fiction or nonfiction work, at least 18 years old, and willing to commit 5–8 hours weekly and participate actively in SmokeLong Fitness.

SmokeLong Quarterly Emerging Writer Fellowship for January–June 2027. Applicants submit three writing samples, each under 1,000 words, plus a 300-word commitment statement. Applicants must be emerging writers without a published or contracted book-length fiction or nonfiction work, be at least 18, and commit 5–8 hours weekly to reading submissions and participating in SmokeLong Fitness.

SmokeLong publishes flash narratives—fiction, nonfiction, and hybrid—up to 1,000 words. The next free-submissions window opens August 16. Free submissions allow one previously unpublished piece at a time; paid multiple submissions allow up to three pieces and promise a response within three days. Usual-issue payment is $100 per story or $150 with audio.
