Open to: Work must be in English and previously unpublished in print or online.
The magazine is open for completed personal essays and other finished nonfiction drafts, as well as pitches for criticism and critical essays. Pieces typically run 2,000 to 5,000 words, occasionally longer. Submissions and pitches sent before August 26, 2026 will not be read.
Open to: Pitches must be for English-language work that has not been previously published in print or online.
Pitches are accepted for criticism and critical essays on literature, art, history, politics, film, television, music, and internet subcultures; pitches for interviews are not currently accepted. Pieces typically run 2,000 to 5,000 words, occasionally longer. Responses generally take four weeks.
Fiction submissions are not currently open due to an unprecedented number of submissions; the magazine asks writers to check back for updated information in 2027.
Poetry submissions are currently closed because the journal has reached its 2026 cap; submissions received during the submission period receive a response by the end of May 2027. The fee is $3 per submission, with limited fee waivers available.
