Short Stories (new in 2026): 1 short story up to 2500 words; open to all literary and genre fiction except erotica; must relate to chronic illness, disabilities, or mental health.
Microfiction: Up to 3 pieces of 400 words or fewer each (new official category in 2026); Flash Fiction: 1 piece up to 1000 words; open to all literary and genre fiction except erotica; must relate to chronic illness, disabilities, or mental health.
1 creative nonfiction piece up to 2000 words (increased from 1500 in 2025); must relate to chronic illness, disabilities, or mental health.
Hybrid/Experimental: Up to 3 pieces up to 1000 words each; must relate to chronic illness, disabilities, or mental health.
Up to 3 poems in one Word document (each poem on its own page); prose poetry allowed; open to formal, free verse, short poems, etc.; must relate to chronic illness, disabilities, or mental health.
