Short stories of 2,000 to 7,500 words are accepted from the 1st of each month until the submission cap is reached; the sweet spot is 2,000 to 4,000 words, and every other month submissions are limited to writers who have not previously submitted short stories to X-R-A-Y. Response time is 4-6 weeks.

flashLiteraryOpens Oct 1

Flash fiction of 300 to 2,000 words is accepted from the 1st of each month until the submission cap is reached; the sweet spot is 750 to 1,200 words. Response time is 4-8 weeks.

flashLiteraryOpens Sep 21

Micro fiction submissions open on the 21st of each month and close when the submission cap is reached. Submit one to three pieces, each no more than 300 words; micros may be fiction, nonfiction, and beyond. Response time is 1-4 weeks.

nonfictionLiteraryOpens Oct 1

Creative nonfiction of 300 to 7,500 words is accepted from the 1st of each month until the submission cap is reached; sweet spots are 750 to 1,200 words and 4,000 to 6,000 words. Response time is 4-6 weeks.
